Connectivity and local control
Connecting a device involves more than entering a WiFi password. Users also need to discover equipment, understand its state and continue after a failed connection.
Before network setup
Confirm device and app version compatibility, the network and discovery permissions required by the official setup process, and the router requirements of the relevant device. Follow current device documentation for frequency bands, setup methods and reset procedures.
Choose recognizable device names. When multiple devices share a space, names should identify their installation position or purpose rather than only a default number.
Distinguish connection states
Product requirements should distinguish at least these states rather than reporting every issue as offline:
- The device has not been configured for a network.
- It is connecting to the network.
- It is on the network but the app has not established a control connection.
- It is controllable and its state is synchronized.
- The connection was interrupted and recovery is in progress.
Actual interfaces and protocol fields depend on the current implementation. These states help teams design interactions; they are not a protocol specification.
Understand local-first control
Local-first means keeping critical operations on the user's network and devices where possible. It does not mean the equipment has no network requirements, or that every remote capability works offline.
Confirm the boundaries of local control, device-side scheduling, Internet access and remote services separately. Explain which functions continue when external connectivity is unavailable.
Verify recovery
Use real scenarios: restart the router, interrupt device power, switch the phone's network and return the app to the foreground. Observe whether connections and displayed states recover, and whether user intervention is needed.
Record the app and firmware versions, device model and network environment so issues can be reproduced.
Integrate your product
Before using Borneo-IoT in a branded app, business platform or custom hardware, confirm the interfaces and licensing conditions of the target version. Obtain relevant material from the official documentation or engineering team, rather than relying on unpublished interface assumptions.
