Getting started with Borneo-IoT
Borneo-IoT combines controller hardware, device firmware and mobile applications into a platform for smart aquarium equipment and lighting control.
Choose your starting point
For commercial aquarium lighting, assess controller platforms such as BLC10. To understand the relationship between open hardware and firmware, explore the Ulva-6 reference product.
See hardware platforms for available starting points. Refer to the official documents for the relevant hardware version for voltage, current, interfaces and channels; do not infer compatibility from a product name.
Understand the platform
| Part | Questions to assess |
|---|---|
| Controller hardware | Power, LED drivers and control interfaces |
| Device firmware | Network setup, control, scheduling and state |
| Borneo-IoT app | Device discovery, configuration and management |
| Product integration | Enclosure, connectors, pilot production and branding |
Evaluate these parts together. A software capability does not mean every hardware revision has the corresponding interface.
Obtain the open projects
The official repository is authoritative for source code, licenses and current release notes. Start by cloning it and reading its root documentation:
git clone https://github.com/borneo-iot/borneo.git
cd borneo
Build tools and dependencies differ between components. Follow the README in the relevant directory rather than mixing instructions from different versions.
Verify the first control path
- Check the device model and hardware revision, and read power and wiring instructions.
- Confirm hardware and firmware compatibility, then prepare the device using the official guide.
- Discover the device and configure its network using the official app.
- Connect a compatible load and verify basic control of one channel.
- Verify schedules, state feedback and recovery after a power interruption.
Disconnect power before wiring. Do not connect lighting or drivers until electrical compatibility has been confirmed.
